"Master of Magic" 5 of 5 stars
Trip Advisor Houdini Museum Reviewed November 25, 2012
This is an off the wall museum and one would never expect to find this but we did. Had a superb time here and learned a lot about Mr Houdini. Dotty and Dick were so entertaining and it was great to be a part of her act. So many Houdini artifacts and magic items filled the many rooms. I felt as if I were in his home and he was sharing part of his life we us. Both Dotty and Dick knew everything about Houdini and I bought several items in the gift store. A must for the magician in you!

"Harry Houdini the Man"
5 of 5 stars
Trip Advisor Houdini Museum Reviewed May 10, 2012
If you're interested in seeing the real America, the kind of America that isn't centered around an amusement park, then the Harry Houdini Museum should be on your list. It's a small, one-of-a-kind museum run by Dorothy Dietrich and Dick Brookz in Scranton PA. It's a converted house in a residential area so be careful not to drive right by looking for a big, commercialized attraction. But inside is everything you'd ever expect in a museum dedicated to Houdini. Dorothy and Dick scour the Earth looking for any bit of genuine Houdini memorabilia from the actual equipment he used in his tricks (such as an actual milk can fron his most famous escapes) to genuine theater programs detailing his life as it was recorded during his lifetime. The museum houses the most complete Houdini collection anywhere.

The Houdini Museum is more than just a walk-through, 25-cent tour. Its proprietors, as well as providing a magic show for its patrons, take great care in preserving the Houdini legend in the most factual manner possible. They told us as much about Harry Houdini the man as they did about Harry Houdini the magician and it is a most fascinating story about a most fascinating individual. I came away with much more respect for this entertainer, entrepreneur and most honorable American.

Operating the museum is a labor of love for Dietrich and Brookz. I doubt they are wealthy people because of it, but they pour their hearts and souls into keeping alive the Houdini legacy and history for us all. The Houdini Museum is truly an American treasure but one that will not last forever. Maybe in a generation it will not be here anymore replaced by a Disney-fied version of Houdini complete with all the embellishments of a comic book hero cleansed of any trace of his real humanity. I fear that once the museum is gone, Houdini himself will be permanently lost so please plan on seeing it soon.

With that all said, I obviously give the Harry Houdini Museum two thumbs up. It's a genuine slice of America and the perfect afternoon diversion from the theme park scene. Yes, they will offer things like for purchase (we bought a deck of magic cards and a reproduction theater program - both very reasonably-priced) but you can rest assured that every dollar you spend there goes directly back into keeping the museum going.

"Highlight of Our Trip!"

My family, friends, and I visited the Houdini museum in Scranton, PA over spring break. The dedication that Dorothy and Bravo the Great have is incredible. This was fun for all ages. Dorothy and Bravo get everyone involved and they know how to make everyone laugh! One of our friends was levetated, another had coins pulled from his pockets out of nowhere, and everyone got a chance to participate. Not only was the magic show great, but the tour of the museum was amazing as well. It was very informative and interesting. Bravo and Dorothy are great entertainers. I would recommend this marvelous museum to anybody travelling to Scranton. It is a must-see for all ages!! This was the best part of our trip, hands down. I wouldn't mind visiting again!

I took my nieces and nephews and my own children to this wonderful attraction. Their age ranges are from 5 years old to 17 years old. The kids and the adults had a blast. My niece was levatated on stage and the cousins are still taking about that! They were all able to pick out awesome souveniers that were not insanely priced. Wonderful family day. We are going back this summer and every year.

"Excellent Presentation!"

The Houdini Museum is a wonderful place for all ages! The staff are experts on the life of the great magician. They provide visitors with an interesting biography of his life. The museum contains numerous items that had belonged to Harry Houdini. The pace is very relaxed, and the staff are happy to answer visitors' questions.

The magic shows are particularly entertaining, and Dorothy is an outstanding entertainer! I really enjoyed watching her make doves and rabbits appear out of nowhere, and turn a duck into a poodle! She ended her show by levitating my 14 year old son. The museum is a must see for Scranton residents, and is certainly a great attraction for the areas visitors. All ages will enjoy! You, too, can have your son levitated!

The owners put on a wonderful show. The both of them are very engaging and warm. They take all questions very seriously - even those from very young children. We took our grandchildren 8 and 4. They loved it and so did we. I highly recommend it.
